This week’s Square Mile Reports show (29/01/2012) we have a health special.
On January 19th Square Mile Reports went along to Woodgate Resource Centre where a health consultation was taking place with local residents. During the one hour session local residents had the opportunity to discuss their concerns. A Health Priorities exercise was also carried out by the residents in which they listed concerns such as reducing smoking, vaccinations and fitness in order of importance to them.
The health consultation was facilitated by Leicester West MP Liz Kendall. Shadow Minister for Care and Older People Ms Kendall has been involved with the Square Mile project since it began back in September 2011. She told us that it is important for her as a local MP to be aware of local people’s concerns on a whole range of issues and the Square Mile project was a great way to find out exactly what people’s experience actually is.
Prof. Mandy Ashton the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of De Montfort University’s Health and Life Sciences department was also on hand to give expert analysis of the problems that affect the Square Mile area.
Also on the show Square Mile Reports new co-producer Ella Griffith, went along to Leicester Royal Infirmary to find out about the Choose Better campaign which advices members of the public on the best port of call for their individual health concerns. Speaking with staff at the hospital Ella discovered that many people incorrectly visit the LRI with minor issues that could be dealt with either by going to their GP or their local pharmacist. Ella learnt how people can keep up to date with the latest goings on at the LRI via their Twitter feed.
Finally we would like welcome a new volunteer to Square Mile Reports Abbie Golightly. Abbie is keen to learn all about radio production and has already started to pick up many skills within her first week. We look forward to working with her up in the upcoming weeks.
